Beating heart of Existence

In these auspicious days that we are observing Imam Hassan Askari's (PBUH) birth anniversary, the best way we know to thank Allah for the bestowal of yet another Guiding Light to humankind, is to keep the remembrance of the last remaining and living Guiding Light -who is the beloved son of Imam Hassan Askari (PBUT)- alive in our hearts which beat for the glorious day when Allah's Will shall encompass the entire Existence.

Hazrat Mahdi (PBUH) was not well known and famous among the masses at the time of his birth and in his childhood. But the sincere Shi'ah who frequented Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH), were blessed with the felicity of being in the presence of the Ever-Anticipated Savior of the Last Days, the Imam of Age (May Allah hasten his Emergence), and visiting him. But after the martyrdom of Imam Hassan Askari (PBUH) -which the government had schemed to prevent the Savior's birth- when the ruling government finally became aware of Imam Mahdi's (PBUH) existence, the government ordered the search and seizure of this youth wherever he could be found and therefore, for this reason and others, Allah ordered him in Occultation.

Basically by Occultation, it is meant that, from the commencement of Imam Mahdi's (PBUH) Imamat, due to many facts such as the social conditions and threats which had taken a turn for the worse, he -on Allah's command- has been residing at an unknown place, while being present in the midst of people, walking in markets, stepping on carpets, …, but either not seen or seen and not recognized … .

It must be kept in mind that, this way of life has not been an obstacle in the performance and discharge of his duties and responsibilities as the Imam of time; from the commencement of his Imamat, he has been the beating heart of Existence, whether he is seen by all or not.

Imam Mahdi (PBUH) is the last of Allah’s Proofs. Like other Imams (PBUT), he too has been endowed with divine knowledge and power. Various books have mentioned his numerous extraordinary feats.

(For instance, one can refer to the book ‘Madinat-Ol-Ma'aajez’ by Sayyed Haashem Bahraani)

These miracles are themselves signs of his Divinely bestowed Power and Imamat. These comprise of healing the sick, helping the poor, guiding the deviated, showing the way to those who have lost the path, prophecies, etc. In other words, the Occultation of Imam (PBUH) is absolutely not an obstacle to fulfilling or discharging his duties as a caring and benevolent Imam.

O' Allah! Bless us to be among those who -based on Your command- seek his help moment by moment, and enumerate us in the midst of his companions, in his Occultation as well as Reappearance, in this world as well as the Hereafter.
