'Minor' Occultation

The Occultation of the beloved Imam Mahdi (PBUH) is divided into two parts: 'Minor' and 'Major'. It is worth noting that even Sunni scholars have narrated traditions concerning Occultation, in their books.

Long before the Occultation, Traditions have been narrated in detail relating them from the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HP) and the infallible Imams (PBUT). In one Tradition, Imam Saadeq (PBUH) has said:

There are two Occultations for the Qaa'em; one of them is longer than the other.”

(Shi'ah documents: Al-Ghaibah, p. 170, H. 1&2, …; Sunni documents: Eqdod Dorar, Moqaddas Shaafe'i, p. 133&134, …)

The 'Minor' Occultation commenced with the Imamat of Imam Mahdi (PBUH) and its duration was sixty nine years, i.e. 260 - 329 A.H. The era thereafter is called as the 'Major' Occultation which will continue till his Reappearance.

The peculiarity of the 'Minor' Occultation was that in this period, by Allah's command, there were some special representatives chosen by the Imam himself, who were a channel between the Imam (PBUH) and the people. They conveyed letters, questions, offerings, gifts, etc. to the Imam (PBUH) and carried his replies to the people.

These were four people who became famous as the ‘Nowwaab Arba'ah (Four Representatives)’. Numerous miracles and extraordinary feats were performed by these four representatives which are recorded in the books of Traditions.

They used to reside at Baghdad, and their graves are found there even today, and the Shi'ah visit their graves and pay tribute to them in acknowledgement of their sincerity in serving the Imam of Age (PBUH).

Stay with us as we shall, Allah-Willing, introduce them, those who loved and obeyed Imam Mahdi (PBUH) to their last breath.

May Allah bestow upon all loving and anticipating souls, the blessed opportunity of serving the Last Treasure of the Ahlul-Bait (PBUT), the last infallible representative of Allah, during his Occultation by keeping the uncompromisable Truth alive, and during his Reappearance too, when the Truth shall encompass all souls … .
