Day and Night …

Asbagh son of Nabaatah said: Son of Kawwaa’ asked the Amir al Mo’menin: Inform me regarding: who is sightful and seeing at night and seeing in day? And about the blind at night and blind in day? And about the blind at night, and seeing in day? And about the blind in day and seeing at night?

Then Amir al Mo’menin told him: Woe betide you! Ask of that which benefits you and ask not of what benefits you not, woe betide you!

[Son of Kawwaa’ had a complicated personality, always trying to sarcastically ask meaningless questions which in his childish mind had no sensible answers, thus trying to make Hadrat Ali (PBUH) look bad; but observe how beautifully Hadrat Ali (May we offer our entire existence in his Cause) gave him an answer in a way that his senseless question was actually directed toward a very significant fact; let us read together and enjoy Hadrat’s response:]

And As for seeing at night, and seeing in day, he is who has believed in the Messengers, Awsiya (Successors), Prophets and Books that have passed, and has believed in Allah and His Prophet Mohammad (PBUH&HP) and has confessed to my welaayat (wilayat), in this case he has seen at his night and day; as for blind at night and blind in day, he is who has denied the Messengers and Successors and the Books which have passed and has recognized the Prophet and not believed in him and not confessed my wilayat, thus he has denied Allah -The Undefeatable, and the Majestic- and His Prophet (PBUH&HP), in this case he has not seen at night and not seen in day; and as for seeing at night , blind in day, he who has believed in Prophets and Books, and has denied the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH&HP) and rejected my [Allah Bestowed] Right, in this case he has seen at night and not seen in day; and as for blind at night and seeing in day, he is who has denied previous Prophets, Successors and Books, and has recognized Mohammad (PBUH&HP), thus he has believed in Allah and His Messenger and believed in my Imamat and accepted my wilayat, in this case he has not seen at night and seen in day. Woe betide you! O’ son of Kawwaa’! Behold! We are sons of AbiTaaleb, by us Allah has begun Islam and by us He shall bring It to final conclusion.

Asbagh said: When Amir al Mo’menin came down the pulpit, I followed him and said: O’ my lord! O’ Amir al Mo’menin! You strengthened my heart by that which you clarified. And he (PBUH) told me: O’ Asbagh! He who has doubted my [Allah Bestowed] wilayat surely has doubted in his Eemaan (Belief), and he who has confessed to my wilayat has surely confessed to Allah’s -The Undefeatable, and The Majestic- Wilayat ,and my wilayat is Attached to Allah’s Wilayat just like these two; He then joined his index and middle fingers. O’ Asbagh! He who has confessed my wilayat has surely achieved Salvation and he who has denied my wilayat certainly has failed and lost and has fallen down in the Fire, and he entering the Fire, will remain there for a very very long time.
